Pioneers Manager Offers One-on-One
Instructional Baseball

NY – Area youth preparing for the upcoming baseball season can improve their
overall baseball skills by seeking the help of a former professional baseball
player - Matt Burch of Matt Burch Championship Baseball . Burch,
former first round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals and current manager of
the Elmira Pioneers baseball team, offers personal baseball lessons for any
young aspiring player looking to enhance his or her baseball skills. Burch customizes his one-on-one instructional
plan based upon each player’s strengths and challenges. “Even if this is the
athlete’s first year of tee-ball or a high school senior looking to move on to
play in college or professionally, I develop a specific in-season and
off-season program based upon the athlete’s abilities and skills,” said

Championship Baseball include proper hitting, throwing and fielding techniques,
the mechanics of pitching and a videotape analysis. “My goal is to make the
entire learning experience a fun and educational one for the athlete,” said
Burch. The former standout from Thomas A. Edison High School
had his most single season high for wins professionally in 2001 when he
captured 12 victories for the Wilmington,
Delaware Blue Rocks. He also pitched for the 2003 Northern League champion
Fargo-Morehead Redhawks. Burch still
holds several school records for the three years he pitched at Virginia
Commonwealth University (VCU). Burch still remains number one in the Rams
record book as the school’s strikeout leader (288) and complete games (20).
He’s second in career victories with 26. Among his many honors while pitching
at VCU include Second Team All-America honors from Baseball America,
Baseball Weekly, and the American Baseball Coaches Association. He gained
All-Star First Team honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference and
received the co-Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year Award. While at Edison High School
he was a three-year starter in football, basketball and baseball. He earned
all-conference honors in baseball in three years and twice captured the Harp
O’Donnell Award given to Chemung
County’s top high school
