Pioneers Manager Offers One-on-One Instructional Baseball

Elmira, NY – Area youth preparing for the upcoming baseball season can improve their overall baseball skills by seeking the help of a former professional baseball player -  Matt Burch of Matt Burch Championship Baseball . Burch, former first round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals and current manager of the Elmira Pioneers baseball team, offers personal baseball lessons for any young aspiring player looking to enhance his or her baseball skills.  Burch customizes his one-on-one instructional plan based upon each player’s strengths and challenges. “Even if this is the athlete’s first year of tee-ball or a high school senior looking to move on to play in college or professionally, I develop a specific in-season and off-season program based upon the athlete’s abilities and skills,” said Burch.  Lessons offered by Matt Burch Championship Baseball include proper hitting, throwing and fielding techniques, the mechanics of pitching and a videotape analysis. “My goal is to make the entire learning experience a fun and educational one for the athlete,” said Burch.  The former standout from Thomas A. Edison High School had his most single season high for wins professionally in 2001 when he captured 12 victories for the Wilmington, Delaware Blue Rocks. He also pitched for the 2003 Northern League champion Fargo-Morehead Redhawks.  Burch still holds several school records for the three years he pitched at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Burch still remains number one in the Rams record book as the school’s strikeout leader (288) and complete games (20). He’s second in career victories with 26. Among his many honors while pitching at VCU include Second Team All-America honors from Baseball America, Baseball Weekly, and the American Baseball Coaches Association. He gained All-Star First Team honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference and received the co-Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year Award.  While at Edison High School he was a three-year starter in football, basketball and baseball. He earned all-conference honors in baseball in three years and twice captured the Harp O’Donnell Award given to Chemung County’s top high school baseball player.  Families interested in scheduling Burch for private baseball lessons for their children can contact Burch’s agent, Denis Sweeney, at 607-962-6197 or bye-mail  sweenenterprise@aol.com.
